Have you ever tried to register an original .com name only to find that not only is it already registered but every single connotation of it is as well?

Who are these sad, available on back order, get-a-life losers? Can’t you just imagine these idiots sitting in a dark room somewhere all day and night doing nothing else but trying to think up company names and then registering them in an inane and, I suspect, largely fruitless attempt to coerce some mug somewhere (and he’d need to be) to part with his hard-earned cash to register the company name of his dreams?

They must think they’re being so clever. Are they? Judge for yourselves with this perfect example: When I was registering mockthenet, which is the original name I thought up, I decided to have a look at what else was available. I immediately noticed that a company had registered “mocktheweb.com”. When I looked further I found that it was registered to a company called godaddy.com but wasn’t being used. I don’t know what other forms they registered I wasn’t interested enough to check. The point is these moneygrabbers are only intent on snatching their 30 pieces of silver or pound of flesh depending on your point of view that they didn’t think the thing through or just weren’t bright enough to suss out the big picture: That being the web is also referred to as “the net” derrr….

Maybe I’m doing them a disservice though. Perhaps they had a completely different reason for registering mocktheweb? I suppose it’s possible their intention was for anybody thinking of starting an anti-spiderman site. I think I'll run and register "www.peterparkersucks.com.co.uk.net etc. etc. etc.

Way to go godaddy. At least you’ve won our extremely prestigious accolade as “Mock of the Week”.

We managed to get a secret photo of one of these mysterious people who live in darkened rooms and do nothing else but register domain names.
